Today was the last part of the CIC Database research in the West Region. As mentioned in the previous journal, my portion include eight states in the West. I have finished the research of California State yesterday and today’s task was the completion of the rest seven states’ data collection. In AZ, there was only one school named Prescott College without athletics. In ID, MT, NV, and UT, the amount of high-educated schools was relatively small, on average for about two. Fortunately, there was a specific athletics department in these schools and easily to find out the staff contact information in the same method learned from yesterday. The situation in OR and WA was relatively optimal because the schools on average about were nine. Although NCAA stated that there was over 90% of high-educated schools titled a position for SWA, there were still a few schools that did not have specific SWA in their staff directory, such as Reed College. Another issue in this research was that most schools did not illustrate the pictures in the section of the staff directory to help find out the SWA. Because some schools did not mark the exact employee for the SWA and pictures could be helpful to do so. Except for the issue of SWA, some schools’ career director was a little hard to find out as well. The career service department used a public shared email and/or phone number. It was probably that the negative impact of the COVID-19, the staff’s turnover became positive and some positions were empty temporarily. As a result, the normal reaching out path became less smooth than before and it would be a delay for academic communication among different schools.
