Today’s keyword for the research of Kim Ng was professional. Except for the first Asian female leader in the baseball field, Ng is also the second person of Asian descent to lead an MLB team, following Farhan Zaidi, the former Los Angeles Dodgers GM and current president of baseball operations for the Giants. Before Ng becomes the highest-ranking woman in baseball operations among 30 teams, she has achieved numerous accomplishments in her field, which brings three World Series championships, six league championship series, and eight postseason appearances in the league history. When Kim Ng started working for the Chicago White Sox in 1990, her duty was entering statistical information about players into a computer. Using analytics to inform scouting and contract negotiations as she rose from White Sox intern to assistant general manager of the Yankees and the Dodgers. During her tenure at MLB, Ng directed international baseball operations and worked with front offices and baseball leagues around the world. She set and enforced policy for international signings rules and established MLB’s first system for registering international players. Ng worked to raise the standards for international baseball academies and negotiated agreements and terms with international winter leagues. Focusing efforts on growing the game of baseball, Ng led MLB’s initiatives to improve the quality of play and rate of participation for amateur baseball around the world all while supervising player initiatives for women and girls and serving on the league’s Diversity Pipeline Advisory Committee. In 2015, Forbes ranked Kim Ng #13 on its list of the most influential minorities in sports. In 2017, Ng was ranked #10 on the list of the most powerful women in U.S. sports.
