Today I picked a free online sports academic course, which was named Maternity Wellness, to supply my mentor hours. With the suggestion from Dr. Tiell, I browsed the free online courses page of the United States Sports Academy. On this page, there were three free online courses to be chosen: Introduction to Coaching, Sport Related Concussions, and Maternity Wellness. The course of Introduction to Coaching provided an overview of the important aspects universal to coaching all sports. Topics explored were ethics; sports administration; coaching methodology; conditioning and nutrition; injury prevention, immediate care, and rehabilitation; and sports psychology. The course of Sport Related Concussions provided an in-depth review of the risks, prevention, recognition, treatment, and management of sport-related concussions. This course also discussed the importance of awareness and education strategies for coaches, athletes, parents, administrators, and health care professionals. The course of Maternity Wellness covered the physical and physiological changes women’s bodies undergo during and after pregnancy. Students who joined this course would learn a variety of exercises and modifications that had been specifically designed for pregnant women, along with, how to assess which exercises are appropriate in each trimester. After reviewed the mentioned three courses, I decided to study the last one. Not only I did not have any coaching or athletics experience, but also as a part of females, I had the responsibility to help other females to live healthy with more empathy.
