Today I finished the first draft of the questionnaire for one of my mentorship projects-2020 Tokyo Olympics postponed impact on the tourism industry between the U.S. and China. Due to the travel van of COVID-19, I cannot come back to China and collect raw data about this project by myself, I made the questionnaire in the mode of PDF and asked for the help of my friend Mei in China to hand out papered ones. According to the guide and suggestion from my mentor Dr. Bonnie Tiell, this questionnaire consisted of five questions in the mode of single-choice, which were attending preference, age groups, genders, watching preference, and attending impactors. Among the five questions, I customized the contents of attending impactors slightly according to Chinese research habits, such as emerging the choices Riots / Demonstrations and Terrorism into one choice, separating the choice Time / Financial Situation into two independent choices from Time and Financial Situation, and removing the choice Personal Health from the questionnaire. Most Chinese are not familiar with the exact difference between riots, demonstrations, and terrorism. In other words, the three activities are almost the same things for them. If the similar or same options showing in the questionnaire repeatedly, they would lose patience to answer it. Although China’s economy is merging annually, foreign travel is relatively not popular for everyone because the traveling cost is their major considering indicator and they prefer to group tours. Obviously, travel agencies would not organize in an enormous volume and broad range for an Olympics group tour due to the high costs and low profits. Again, the term of travel is not quite common for ordinary Chinese people because of the high costs, so the target customer groups of foreign travel would not care about personal health because their positive financial situation could support them to stay healthy.
